Willowsford Farm Stand – Willowsford Community Part 1

23595 Founders Drive,

Property Description

I’ve had my eye on the Willowsford community for several months as I’ve been researching potential places to live in Northern Virginia.

If you like the idea of beautiful homes in an interactive community, but hate the idea of golf, you’re like me.  Don’t get me wrong Mr. or Ms. golfer blog-reader, we can still be friends (my dad, brother in law and nephew are golfers), but I just don’t like paying any community association fees to maintain a sport that I have no interest in.  On the other hand, if you take away the golf course and add a farm, I’m hooked!

Central Texas has a similar “unique” community in which it was based around a vineyard.  However, Willowsford is much more up my alley.  You can have your golf and your wine, I prefer delicious, farm-grown produce that I can stick in my tummy!

Naturally, I wanted to visit this farm stand during one of our Saturday morning family excursions because I was very curious about this community and the real estate agent in me wanted to check out the homes!  I’ll write about the homes in another post, but for now, let’s talk about the Farm Stand.

First of all, you don’t have to be a resident to enjoy this.  It’s not just a neighborhood amenity, but also a community amenity.  Since it’s not a farmer’s market, there isn’t that much selection, but it was fun to take the kids to see the neatly manicured rows of flowers, herbs, berries and vegetables.  When we asked them how much the raspberries or cherry tomatoes were, they told us that they haven’t monetized those and we were free to pick our own.  Did somebody just say “Free”?

About an hour later later, we paid for a few veggies that we bought, but we also walked away with several pints of free raspberries and cherry tomatoes!  Wow, maybe I shouldn’t be advertising this “secret” veggie source of ours.

This was a great Farm Stand and it was fun for the kids.  Although it’s not a robust farmer’s market, it is located in a beautiful setting, has an assortment of meat, ice cream, eggs, veggies and fruits and even has a few select pick-you-own items for free.
